AGLOBIS and ENGIE Deutschland have signed an Early Work Agreement to develop a technical concept for an energy hub that will supply power to a new sulphur remelter plant planned for Duisburg. ENGIE Deutschland will be responsible for the construction and operation of this energy hub. As an energy supply specialist, ENGIE Deutschland is committed to providing long-term support for the remelter project and contributing to Aglobis' decarbonization goals.
The sulphur remelting process requires energy, particularly steam, which is a crucial component of the remelter. The project faces several challenges, including recent energy price volatility and the need for decarbonization measures. To address these challenges and successfully realize the remelter, Aglobis has partnered with ENGIE Deutschland to develop a technical concept for the Duisburg project and establish a long-term strategic partnership.
To meet the demand of sulphur end-users by delivering the product as early as possible, ENGIE Deutschland's team of experts is working on an energy supply concept. They will be responsible for providing steam and other key utilities for the sulphur remelter plant processes. The focus will be on electrifying the energy supply and incorporating green molecules in the future.
Umalan Gogilan, Key Account Manager and responsible for the project at ENGIE Germany, says: "We at ENGIE Deutschland are proud to support Aglobis in the planning, construction and operation of the sulphur remelter with our experience and know-how. This green-field project is also special for us, because the planning of the plant will focus on the decarbonization of the media from the very beginning. In this way, we are fulfilling our claim to accompany customers on their way to climate neutrality." The Mitsui Group has set itself the goal of being completely climate-neutral by 2050; Aglobis and ENGIE Deutschland will contribute to this.
