Aglobis announces construction of a Sulphur Logistics Terminal and Re-melter
June 17, 2020
The volatile market conditions as well as the structural sulphur undersupply that is currently underway in north-western Europe, especially in Germany, are placing ever higher demands and costs on procurement and logistics. Therefore, the Aglobis Group, in close cooperation with its partners, Duisburger Hafen AG - the world's largest inland waterway port - and Savage Services Corporation, a leading North American sulphur terminal designer, constructor, and operator - intends to build a sulphur terminal with solid and liquid sulphur storage, truck, rail and barge loading and unloading stations and a sulphur re-melter with a capacity of up to 400,000 tons. The terminal is located directly on the Rhine river and therefore also has good connections to the Benelux region.
Due to the very positive reactions from business partners after the presentation of this project, Aglobis is convinced that with this construction in the immediate vicinity of well-known customers and producers and the modular logistics possibilities, it will offer an attractive solution for the sulphur industry.
The construction of a tank farm for another refinery product with similar requirements is also under evaluation.
A construction period of 1.5-2 years is expected. In the meantime, Aglobis continues to have import possibilities for liquid sulphur with their deep-sea vessel "Sulphur Genesis", which has been stationed in Europe since 2012, and also the possibility of using a second ship from the Group's internal fleet for support if required.
